I was thinking today that it would be worth noting down the little tricks which we use as parents to get our children to do what we want. Every so often a gem appears that works every time (for a while) so we grasp onto it and use and abuse it. Currently BFS is still using the santa threat when he wants good behaviour (as I'm sure most parents do!) but I have concocted - with BB's help - a cracking way to get him to drink his milk when he's reluctant (which he needs to do to keep his fluid levels up due to his 'bum problem')
About a year ago - whilst I was still nursing LL, BB sarted to feed Tinky Winky milk from his tummy. He fully believes that TW gets his daily supply from him as TW is his baby and mum's (apparently) feed their babies milk from their tummies (just how far south have my bbobs crept if this is the impression he has??). This did fizzle out, but since new babies have appeared on the local scene and he's witnessing women nursing their babies again he has reinstated this belief. Out of true concern that TW won't have any milk to drink - a gentle reminder from me about this fact (normally in the blunt terms of - 'well if you don't drink your milk then TW won't be able to get any from your tummy!') generally ensures that the 'I've had enough' statement turns to pretty fast guzzling of any volume of milk in front of him. I'm not sure how long I can keep this one up - but it's been going a good few weeks now. I think it's a particularly good effort - and I'll be sure to tell him about it when he's older.
LL is going through a 'hat phase'. This would be fine if he was limiting it to articles which sole design purpose was for wearing upon one's cranium - however he is finding true joy out of placing anything he can find on his head (admittedly his practice has made him a master of pulling on his own tammy - which I think is rather a feat!)
The items so far have consisted of:
His wooly hat
His brothers wooly hat
A plastic builders hat
A fireman's helmet
His pyjama top
A rubber bib
Any of his dinner plates once empty (unfortunately he still gets the remains of any food stuck in his hair)
A (clean) nappy
Remote controls
anything else within grasp!
My particular favourite though is a 'net' from his brothers 'Elefun' game (think old fashioned fishing nets on a stick) because once he has the whole thing on his head he looks like a dodgy gangster about to rob a bank with a stocking on his head.....
