LL - the tale so far (6 months old)...

Ah, to get round to the reason for this blog. To note LL's progress. Bless the little soul that his life seems to pass me by as my attention is constantly being requested from his big brother. LL seems to hop from one problem to the next without so much as a grumble (well apart from during the wee hours!) after spending his first few days in the Neo natal unit his second home has become the doctors office. It's all about the skin - which, due to his big brother's being so problem free - has been a massive bone of contention with me. It's very unusual for exclusively breastfed babies to develop skin problems, but against all odds (and some being very odd) LL has confronted me with several. The latest one even has the doc stumped, or that's all I can presume he was when the only advice I was given was to dose him up with anti-histamines morning and night to mask the problem.....but me being me I haven't given any doses and am trying to get to the bottom of it without having my boy drugged up. Hmmmm actually it may make him drowsy enough to sleep through - maybe I should try that approach?

Just to note for future reference the problem this time is he's having what can only be descriced as a 'histamine reaction' all over his face and spreading to his torso and back after (and only after) his tea time feed on the boob. It dissipates after about an hour. Obviously he's been breastfed since birth and hasn't shown these symptoms before (well apart from one evening incident which I forgot about because it never happened again) so I can only presume it's not me (unless his excema like symptoms are a low level reaction?). I started weaning him 1 week before the first incident and the only difference on the first 2 days of the flare up was breakfast of weetabix with cow's milk (both of which are feasible for causing allergic reactions) however, the flare up didn't occur after he was fed this and also didn't occur after any other boob feed on those days - ONLY after his tea time feed which was the only time during the day which he had nothing else to eat - only his milk from me. I'd fed him directly after I'd eaten my dinner. On the third day I fed him before I ate and he didn't react. On days 3 and 4 he didn't get any weetabix or cow's milk, but on day 4 once again I fed him directly after me eating and he once again flared up (the most serious incident so far). On day 5 we went to the doc's and that's when I was told to drug him up daily! So for the past 2 days I've only fed him before I've eaten and he's been fine (his skin is a bit pimply again - but no different to how he's been for the past 4 months). I'm going to re-introduce the weetabix and cow's milk seperately whilst still feeding him before myself to see if any further reactions occur and if he's fine with that I'll try feeding him after me again and see if that was the actual problem. V.V strange though.......
So to note - he's now had and been fine with...(apart from his baby rice with boob milk) pear, apple, banana, sweet potato and avocado. Oh, and to note Pureed banana, avocado and pear (yup - all 3 together) bear an uncanny resemblance in both colour and texture to snot. Handy for any halloween disguises!!!!
What else?

He hasn't cut any teeth yet.
He can roll from front to back, but not yet the other way around (I think the front to back came a couple of weeks ago)
He can sit up unaided, but hasn't yet got the balance factor (ie will topple over in seconds - unlike his brother who was quite stable at 5 1/2 weeks!)
He pulls up to standing and now carries his own weight for a little while.
Is NOT yet sleeping through - I can tell you over 6 months without a nights sleep does hell for the complexion!
Is just beginning to love to bounce!!!!
Is an absolute star considering he's spent the first 5 months of his life wanting to claw his skin off!
Is a Mummy's boy ;0)
OH YES! - And produces shits that smell of apple!!!!! hahahaha. Last week on the morning after his first 'first tastes' of apple - I kid you not I peeled open his nappy and lo and behold the sweet aroma of golden delicious wafted up. I was tempted at that point to not bother introducing any more food types as the scrubbing of a keech covered potty would be so much more pleasant if it had that fruity aroma, but I know that apples don't contain a serving from all major food groups and I wouldn't be fulfilling my role as a mother to it's best potential if I didn't bring my boys up on a healthy balanced diet! So onto other foods it is.....

  1. Never mind your role as a mother....in the time you took to blog that the ironing could have been done! You have a role as Domestic Godess as well remember.

BB sat upright because of his striking similarity to Buddha!
And we'll see who's a mummy's boy once I teach him to fart in the bath!
